Patient Data Privacy at Clue: A statement from the Co-CEOs
We do not sell your personal health data, we protect it and we would never disclose it for anyone to use against you.
We have received messages from our American users concerned about how their tracked data could be used by US courts if Roe vs Wade were overturned. We completely understand the anxiety, and, frankly, the fury that this has even surfaced as a potential risk to worry about. Navigating our reproductive health journey is complex enough, we should never have to wonder whether surveillance of our private patient data could be used to prosecute us.
As the female Co-CEOs of Clue, we promise you that we will never turn your private health data over to any authority that could use it against you. Your personally identifiable health data regarding pregnancies, pregnancy loss or abortion, is kept private and safe. We don’t sell it, we don’t share it for anyone else’s use, we won’t disclose it. We are governed by the world’s strictest privacy laws (the European GDPR), and we invest a lot of time and expense in making sure we comply with them.
Clue is made to empower you on your reproductive health journey. We aren’t here to tell anyone what to do, or what to believe—we aren’t here to evangelize for any particular life choice. We are here to support people in the full diversity of their own individual menstrual, sexual and reproductive experience, in every way that trustworthy information can.
Your tracked health data should serve you. We commit to ensuring that it isn’t misused for anyone else’s agenda.

In addition, here are some tips from Clue’s Information Security Architect on the things only you can do to protect your data:
Stop anyone else from seeing what is in your private apps if they gain access to your phone. You can do this by activating your PIN, TouchID, or FaceID.
Stop spyware, which can be a particular problem on Android. The Android Ad ID allows information to be extracted from your Android device, like which apps you have downloaded. It is usually turned on by default. If you want to make sure your Android Ad ID is turned off, reset or disable it in your device settings. Only download apps you can trust. Never give apps system-wide permissions to view other apps installed on your phone.
Enable remote data erasure so you can delete data from your phone in case it is lost or stolen. You can activate this with the “Find My iPhone” feature on iOS or with the “Find My Device” feature on Android.
