7 perfect podcasts for your period

Are your eyes dry from hours of staring at your screen, but you’re still craving some mental stimulation? Podcasts are becoming more and more popular as a hands-free, travel-friendly form of entertainment, and education. People are making awesome podcasts about all kinds of things — yes, even menstruation. Here are some of our top picks:

The Periodical

Jessie Braun of Love-XX created The Periodical to speak with people working to stop global menstruation stigma. This podcast, for “everyone who bleeds, and their friends” covers everything from first menstrual moments to periods in pop culture. Expect discussions about World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Toxic Shock Syndrome, period sex, menstrual cups and getting the menstruation “talk” from your mom.

Stuff Mom Never Told You

Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin host this informative and deliciously funny podcast, that gives a rundown of the ever-evolving challenges facing women today and throughout history. Many of their episodes delve into period-related topics, from menstruation taboos and period pride, to the low-down on menstrual cups, PMS, TSS, and period trackers.

2 Dope Queens

Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams are 2 Dope Queens who talk bluntly with their guests about everything from how to use teethed vaginas for the greater good, to sex toys, to the pitfalls of fresh bikini lines — all the while being outrageously funny and informative.

Call Your Girlfriend

Hosted by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman and produced by Gina Delvac, Call Your Girlfriend is your chance to eavesdrop on two best friends discussing the intricacies of pop culture and the latest in politics. Expect real talk about everything from period brain to pelvic power, futuristic tampons, weed as a cramp remedy, and paid menstrual leave.

She and Her Radio

Anita Rao and Sandra Davidson host this southern-focused feminist podcast where they talk politics, culture, and identity with guests including pubic hair stylist and women’s pleasure advocate Rhonda Coleman, as well as microbiologists Katy Brown and Sarah Rhodes, who walk us through the public health implications of period politics.

Soooo Many White Guys

Phoebe Robinson interviews talented folks who aren’t your run-of-the-mill “white guy getting lots of media attention” in this refreshing podcast, produced by Ilana Glazer of Broad City. Check out Robinson’s chat with Comedian and activist Margaret Cho about the end of menstruation.

Period Podcast

A biological anthropologist and former writer for Scientific American, Dr. Kathryn B.H. Clancy is passionate about approaching science through the lens of intersectional feminism and bringing her work to audiences beyond the academy. Her Period Podcast explores anything and everything to do with the menstrual cycle, from PMS and PMDD to tips for managing your period in the wild, through to the vaginal microbiome, the evolution of menopause and the health consequences of inaccessible menstrual hygiene.
